Although this database is supplied in Microsoft Access Database format (DIGIKEY.MDB), you can transition the data into any database format you and your company require. When used with a database application less robust than Microsoft Access, this large a database of parts will decrease CIS performance. For this reason, we recommend that you transition the database to an SQL server or an equivalent client/server database. If you must transition to a less robust database application, reduce the number of parts in the database by only including those that meet your immediate design requirements (your set of preferred parts).

This database is intended for use only by Capture CIS Release 9.2x users as the schematic parts associated in the database are only available from the new schematic parts libraries supplied on the Capture CIS Release 9.2.x CD. A separate ZIP file (DIGIKEYLIBRARIES.ZIP) contains additional schematic symbols (parts) that are not supplied as part of the Release 9 installation. Please unzip these additional OLBs into your Library directory.

In addition to the starter database, the DIGIKEYDATABASE.ZIP file contains a Capture CIS Release 9.2.1 configuration file named DIGIKEY.DBC. For the configuration file and the database to operate as intended, you need to create a data source name called Digikey, using the ODBC Access driver. The CIS Wizard - Database creation made easy.
The CIS Wizard has been created for users of Capture CIS 7.2 (and later) to simplify and assist in the creation of the Engineering Part Database. Following the installation of the CIS Database Wizard, you can create a new database or update an existing database from your schematic design files.

The CIS Database Wizard will install and run from within your Capture CIS 7.2 (and later) installation. Taking an existing schematic design you can generate a new database in one of three different formats: Microsoft Access 97, Microsoft Excel, or comma-delimited text. The CIS Database Wizard has the ability to update an existing database using the Microsoft Access 97 format only.

Running the CIS Database Wizard

To run the CIS Wizard follow the steps below:

• Open any OrCAD family of products design.
• Choose Create Netlist from the Tools menu.
• Select the Others tab and highlight DBWIZARD.EXE
• The CIS Wizard will run and ask you questions in order to generate or update a database.

Uninstall Instructions

To uninstall the CIS Database Wizard:

• Open the Control Panel by selecting Settings from the Start menu button.
• Double click the left mouse button on the Add/Remove Programs icon to display the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box.
• Scroll and select the CIS Database Wizard entry.
• Choose the Add/Remove button.
• Follow the instructions that come up on the screen.
