the part reference changed to '?' when linking database part

Hi guys:
After updating the selected part by linking database part,
the part reference changed to '?'.
How can i addressed the problem?

Could you check in Capture, under Options -> Preferences -> Miscellaneous -> Auto Reference. Is the Automatically reference placed parts checked?

I tried it in the current version (16.3) and the ref des stayed the same regardless of the check box that I had mentioned previously. Which version are you on?
